Neurovisual function in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis
Schusterová, Tereza ; Šafářová, Marcela (advisor) ; Kučerová, Klára (referee)
This thesis deals with the evaluation of neurovisual functions in patients with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS), which is a relatively under-researched topic. The study focuses on comparing selected oculomotor functions using the RightEye device between AIS patients and a healthy control group. The theoretical part introduces the etiology of this spinal deformity, mentioning potential changes in sensory systems that might contribute to the development of AIS. The treatment of this condition is briefly described as well. This section also discusses the possibilities of examining oculomotor functions using eye tracking methods, particularly the RightEye device. Methodology: In the practical section, the results of measurements on the RightEye device were compared between a group of 17 AIS patients and 17 healthy individuals. Both groups underwent device-based measurements, crossed eye-hand lateralization assessment, and hidden strabismus testing. The study assessed saccadic eye movements (targeting vs. overshooting, movement speed) and eye-hand reaction times, with the expectation of better results for the healthy control group. Results: Statistically significant results (p<0.05) were found in the evaluation of the number of repeated vertical and horizontal saccadic movements within a certain...
Preferences and knowledge of physiotherapists in the field of idiopathic scoliosis in the Czech Republic
Smetánková, Tereza ; Pavlů, Dagmar (advisor) ; Nováková, Tereza (referee)
Author: Bc. Tereza Smetánková Supervisor: Doc. PaedDr. Dagmar Pavlů, CSc. Title: Preferences and knowledge of physiotherapists in the field of idiopathic scoliosis in the Czech Republic Objectives: The aim of this diploma thesis is to evaluate the preferences and knowledge of physiotherapists in the field of treatment of idiopathic scoliosis in the Czech Republic in relation to their education, the length of their experience with patients with idiopathic scoliosis and postgraduate courses. Methods: The questionnaire was created by experts in the treatment of idiopathic scoliosis from different European countries. A total of 221 respondents (from the Czech Republic) participated in the survey. The evaluation was then carried out using Microsoft Excel. Results: The percentage of correct answers of the group of respondents with higher education exceeded the percentage of correct answers of therapists with lower education in each of our selected questions. It was also shown that having more years of experience in physiotherapy does not mean having better knowledge and being more confident in the tasks related to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with idiopathic scoliosis. More general knowledge related to brace treatment proved to be quite satisfactory for the respondents, whereas more detailed...
The growth of the spine in childhood and adolescence considering patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis
Tichá, Natálie ; Zemková, Daniela (advisor) ; Mařík, Ivo (referee)
The knowledge of normal growth parameters, mainly including total body growth, spinal growth and pubertal growth spurt, is essential in treatment of all patients with spinal deformities and it allows a better understanding of both normal and abnormal spine growth and of the pathologic changes caused by onset spinal deformity in a growing spine. Childhood includes changes both in body proportions and also changes in sexual development. Sexual maturation has very tight correlation to skeletal development. Bone age is an important parameter used in consideration of development and growth of the child, it relates to maximal growth rate in time of pubertal spurt. This thesis is focused on summary of findings of spinal growth in childhood and adolescence in order to predict spine growth in clinical practice. The thesis considers patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, which is the most common spinal deformity that affects children and adolescents.
